About the Aviation Unions Federation (AUF)
The Australian aviation industry has seen a dramatic change in the last 10 years. The industry was once tightly regulated, and has increasingly been opened up and exposed to market regulation and liberalisation.
As a result crisis and constant competition have defined the decade since and show no signs of abating. September 11, SARS, Swine Flu, and the Global Financial Crisis have all left their mark. Jobs are moved off shore, while in Australia outsourcing and aggressive de-unionisation strategies have all been commonplace.
To continue to meet these challenges, Australian Aviation Unions must change and adapt. As progressive member focused organizations, the Australian and International Polits Association (AIPA), the Australian Licensed Aircraft Engineers Association (ALAEA) the Flight Attendants Association, Domestic/Regional Division (FAAA) and the Transport Workers’ Union of Australia (TWU) are committed to meeting this challenge and fighting back for members!
In the highly competitive, truly global domestic and international aviation industry of the 21st century being able to best fight for members means working more closely with like-minded aviation unions, sharing ideas, commitment, resources and standing together as unionists.
The AIPA, ALAEA, FAAA and TWU have being working towards common goals for many years and recognise that it is in the best interests of aviation workers for the unions to enter into a federation in light of the challenges ahead.
Through the federation, airline workers will share resources and campaign together and promote safe, fair rates of pay and working conditions, while respecting and preserving the traditional coverage of each member union.
